Group Leader – Dr. Cindy De Jonge.

Cindy is an organic geochemist who is studying bacterial membrane lipids in a variety of environments. She currently focuses on the environmental dependency of 15 specific compounds, branched GDGTs, in watershed systems and lake sediments. Specifically,

  • using branched GDGTs in lacustrine sediments to reconstruct changes in climate and the chemical environment.
  • linking branched GDGT distributions in soil, rivers and lakes to the diversity of their bacterial producers, to understand their environmental dependencies.
  • tracing branched GDGTs from source to sink in different soil and aquatic suspended material size fractions.

Cindy is funded by SNSF as a PRIMA group leader.
